Have biology degree, may go for MBA. Need advice.?
Question:
Answer:
Having a science degree to go with an MBA could make you very marketable. There are many science based companies that would be potential employers for you.
In order to get into a good MBA program, you may need to take some basic business courses prior to admission, such as economics, accounting, etc.
There are a number of MBA programs available where you don't have to leave your job do pursue the degree.
Good luck.
I would think that a B.S. in molecular biology and an MBA would be an odd but totally awesome match. Alot of MBA programs suggest that you have previous work experience, particularly previous managerial experience. If you have concrete plans for what you want to do with that MBA as it relates to your scientific background, I would definitely say go for it. You seem pretty smart!
What are the MBA schools you are aiming for? Look at their entrance requirements. Make sure that you have taken tests (i.e. GRE) that they require to even be considered as a student at the school. The admissions pamphlets of the graduate school(s) of your choice should explain the criteria to enter their school. Also, take practice exams before you take the graduate exams required to enter the MBA school of your choice in order to make sure you are at or above the score for admitting students.
To combine a science (or any technology/engineer) degree with an MBA is a very good idea. If you later decide to pursue either a sales career or managerial career, this combination will make you more attractive in the eyes of a potential employer. I have a guy working for me with science and MBA degrees. He is young and new with the company, and definitely one of the best working for me. This is not only thanks to his degrees, he is also a good committed guy, but the degrees help. He thinks in a different way compared to someone with just a science degree.
