Need a career change! Should I get a 2nd degree in Finance, or an MBA?
Question:
I've been considering getting a 2nd degree in Finance b/c I'm good w/ numbers, research and problem solving. my friends say I'll be good at it too... oh, and let's not forget that this field pays well. I also love real estate (but hate sales!) so I figured I could become a Real Estate Analyst.
I know getting an MBA would be good, but don't think I can get in with only tech wk experience, even though my GPA is 3.79
Please help clear my confusion!
Answer:
Get an MBA with a concentration in Finance. You've got the grades, so just study and get a good GMAT score and you should be accepted. MBA programs like it when people have non-business backgrounds because it helps to "diversify" their student body. Your drafting experience should only help your application. Best wishes!
1) with a 3.79 GPA and funding, you will find a school that will accept you into an MBA program.
2) honestly, most of the people I know who are in finance are looking to get out of finance. it's good for a short time but after a while, it's hideously boring. so, it could be a temporary thing, but I wouldn't get a degree in it unless you *know* you love it. maybe finish your degree and work for a year doing some kind of finance stuff to see what you think.
3) law school seems like a pretty big change from drafting. if you like detail and analysis, maybe law school is a good idea after all. and it will pay better than any of the other options you've noted.
good luck!
