A Dual Degree in Public health and Social work?
Question:
I like my main line of work to be health related but at the same time I'd like to get into other areas of Social Work as well.
How do I join both these areas together?...Health plus other Social work?
Thanks
Answer:
The joint MSW/MPH is becoming a very popular degree especially in the policy advocacy area of any major health and Mental Health area (this can include infections - HIV, TB, etc; preventable - Diabetes, Heart Disease, etc.; degenerative - dialysis; progressive - MS, traumatic - TBI, paralysis; mental health - Schizophrenia, Bipoloar)
Obviously -work can also include direct service on the various units in hospital and other settings.

Social work used to be known as the field of social welfare in the old days. It includes all areas under the umbrella of community services for which public health is a major concern. "Joining" the two courses together shouldn't be a problem at all. In fact, they make a perfect combination. You can choose a career in social work with public health as your area of specialization. They are not mutually exclusive. Good luck.
