Any career advice for someone moving to Raleigh, NC with an Associate's Degree in BA?
Question:
I'm from a small, poor, economically-depressed city in southern Virginia. I have NO real-world experience in relation to living and working in a competitive, fast-moving, and demanding economy. I've done very well academically, but I wonder how much that will do for me when I have to support myself when I dont have alot of real-world experience.
This june I'll graduate from a private college with an Associate's Degree in Business Admin. with a concentration in Management. I would prefer to be able to live alone and be a full-time student with a full-time job.(and live at least somewhat comfortably!)
If anyone knows, realisitically, what kind of job title and salary a person in my position would be suited for, please let me know. Also, any general advice that's relevant would be appreciated. Thanks!
Answer:
As another answer says, tech business is thriving in the area, but we also have every other type of imaginable business. In my neighborhood, I know of not one other person working in tech, yet they are all employed living in nice homes. My point? Dont be discouraged, come to Raleigh, you'll find plenty of work!

Good luck.
The economy in the Raleigh-Durham region is largely science, engineering, technology and medical-oriented. You may unfortunately not be able to find much more than low-ranking office work, given your work experience so far. Or maybe work in a bank. But I doubt you'll find much more than that without some more experience.
You can try finding a state government job doing administrative work, while you study for a higher degree. (You can find some listed at ncgov.org).
Good luck!
