What i dont have is a certification or relavent experience in business analysis..
How do I successfully transition into business analysis/functional consultant.?
I am prepared to study for it if required..
Could you please suggest how I can do this and what kind of study is required that would add on to my skillset??
Answer:
Start with a lateral transition in your field. Become a Software Engineer for a company or department that deals heavily with data-based applications. You may actually end up doing some BA things while creating code in order to break down that data. Typically, that provides enough of a taste of data analysis to be satisfied, while keeping the larger Software Engineer paycheck. Of course, if you just can't get enough, that will at least give you a place to build contacts and relationships in order to try to get a job in the business analyst space.
The SMP cert sounds like the best cert for what you're talking about. It's one of the only certs that covers multiple areas of the software development life cycle in any depth, including analysis. If not that, then the PMP would be a second option.
