Having experience allows you to put a practical slant on the more academic ideas and principles, also allows you to apply some in your working environment. A lot of the MBA is practical and apply-it-where-you-work so essential i would think.
The GURU of strategic planning, Mintzberg has written a whole book about it. What it boild down to is that an MBA is not supposed to make you a manager, that you should be already. The MBA should just empower the manager.
Having work experience before going in for an MBA is booster! it helps you understand the principles involved in doing any type of business. the experience that you take into the classroom, helps you relate to theories and guidelines.
