When all is said and done is Law degree more marketable or an MBA?
Question:
Answer:
Of course, it depends a lot on the field, but I would have to say that an MBA is more marketable overall. While a law degree might make you extremely marketable in a select few fields, an MBA will make you more marketable in a wide variety of fields. You also have to consider the type of schools you're going to be able to get into -- you might want to take practice tests for both the GMAT and the LSAT, and see which one you're likely to do better on. Going to a poorly-regarded MBA program might almost be a waste of time, as there are plenty of MBAs to go around. Also remember that one of the most important aspects of an MBA education is the networking.
In business sense, marketability means or has more to do with the value that the good or service provides its end users.
If you are talking about law degree or an MBA as course offerings their usefulness vary according to individual needs.
If you are talking about the degree as a career, the practitioner's level of skills and popularity come to the fore. If you are well known as a skillful lawyer or a management consultant you shouldn't be worried at all about your marketability. If you are just starting up a career as for instance, a lawyer, just make sure you know which part of the law practice you are good at and focus on it.
Knowing well what you know well is the key to the issue of marketability of a profession just as it is true to marketing an ordinary commodity.
Now, about your question, which of the two profession, Lawyering or MBA, is more marketable? Refer to paragraph three of this answer.
I have an MBA and it hasn't helped me in my field unless I want to be a manager.
As far as wealth of jobs, there are more manage-type jobs than lawyer-type jobs. Law jobs are very competitive. And you need to get your degree from a good school and have had good work while going to school (such as Law Review Board, research, work with key people, key internships, etc). It's very hard and competitive.
IMO, it was easier getting the MBA.
