This is a booming field in some respects, as the retiring market for elderly baby boomers should make for high demand. One should get some experiance / education in financial fields, financial laws, and learn about things like personal credit and retirement / investment accounts.
A lot of financial firms recruit out of college. If you're currently in college, check your career center. Ameriprise, Fidelity, etc. all usually conduct on campus interviews for positions related to financial advisory.
