I'm not sure about AG Edwards in particular, but for heavy duty investments, I would imagine at least 100k and being an accredited investor also. Why don't you just give them a call? Worse case, they'll say, "Sorry, we don't want to deal with you."
They'll talk to you if you only have a couple of grand, it's just that they won't be able to help you much as your options are limited.
It'll depend on the office and the advisor. You may find they are happy to talk to you if you have $2,000 - but they certainly will be glad you came in with $50,000 and they would be extremely excited should you come in with over $100,000!
Unfortunately, good advice should be given to you at whatever level of investment you have, be it $1,000 or even $1,000,000.
Call and ask, or just drop by and meet one of the advisors - see if you even want the man/woman to handle your investments first - don't even mention money - if they ask you how much you have - then you will find out quickly whether they want to talk to you or not.
