How do i find an excellent financial advisor?

Question:
Is there a publication that names them?

Answer:
Barron's, once a year, names advisers. I believe that your net worth must be over $5,000,000 for them to speak with you.

Next best bet;
Speak to friends. Get suggestions. Don't use advisers with banks or Insurance Companies.

Interview at least four. If they start off by suggesting variable annuities. run away. If they suggest "B"or "C" shares of Mutual Funds. run away.

You must feel 100% at ease with the individual you choose.

There's no "easy way". Good companies have good advisers and not so good advisers. You need to have some basic understanding so you can pick the right one.

Good luck.
Check with your state securities commission. They can probably provide a list of advisors in your area. And check those with the National Association of Securities Dealers, on their brokercheck for any violations. You can also check the ADV here. Thats their disclosure form that describes their background, fees, services etc. That may narrow it down and then you can ask around. Word of mouth is usually the best though.
