Is it possible for a financial aide advisor to only give you so much in loans?

Question:
My estimated cost of attendance is $14k. She has processed my grant, but nothing else is showing up (although I probably have to go through the verification process). She could possibly just want that before she gives me my package, but is it possible for a school to deny you loans that you demonstrate a need for?

Answer:
Unless you have collateral (something of value they can take from you) and an income to be able to pay, your loans will be limited to the amount the government has specified for "guaranteed student loans). The adviser doesn't have much say in it.

Scholarships are the solution!
Yes.
Of course. Why would any school be obligated to loan you money?

Its all based on merit and need and if you need less than another person with the same merit you probably won't get as much.
Yes they have some controlover this.
