Does anyone have any advice for starting a new job as a financial advisor?

Question:
I am about to start on my certifications, and should be starting in about 2-3 months.

Answer:
"Financial Advisor" is a term which has many meanings -- are you studying for a Series 7?
When I managed Registered Reps, I often told them 'if you don't lose money for your clients, you don't get sued'. The key to that is to diversify the client's portfolios. If they can't afford to buy a diversified portfolio, then stay with broad-based etfs.
Your face two major risks -- a) not generating enough commissions to support yourself, and b) putting your interests ahead of those of your clients. These are, of course, at odds with one another, which is what is wrong with the basic structure of the brokerage industry.
Good luck.
