How can one find out if the financial advisor they are working with, has a stockbroker license?

Question:
What ques should I ask a retirement specialist to be sure they are legimate.

Answer:
As pointed out, it is easy to see if they are legit. But much harder to see if they actually know anything! What are they recomending? Is it right for you? Long term, short term. Does their company own any shares.and if they do: are they buying or selling.would be a few of the questions I'd ask.and then, I would want to know if they(personally) had any money in the recomended, and if not, why,(keep in mind there are good reasons not to be invested)...but why are they selling to you? (unless of course, you guide so much business their way, they have to give $ kudos... and most of all.'what's your cut?' (not to say they don't earn it, but you would still want to know how they will benefit..these are questions the pros would ask.;-)
ASK TO SEE THERE LICENSE
If they are honest and above board, they will not hesitate to show you their license. Get the number and check on them. An honest broker will welcome you checking.
Brokers have to pass an exam called the Series 7 and maintain their license with the NASD. As part of this license, the NASD requires that they be employed by a registered broker-dealer that complies with trading rules and regulations. You should be able to ask your broker for the compliance contact for his office or check the NASD website: http://www.nasd.com/investorinformation/... Click on "Check out brokers & advisers"
