Why cant you find a free list of foreclosures?

Bluntly because the ppl who make up the lists want to make up for the time and effort it takes to get the information. Nothing is free anymore, sorry about that.
The sites that collect private loans foreclosures and that are not government guarantees are mainly foreclosures.com and realtytract.com but you do have to pay a monthly charge to get their services.
If you want to look at government backed loans that the properties have been foreclosed, those are listed by the government with several different companies for you to look at for free. Here are just some of those links that might help you out with your research
