Finding homes in Pre foreclosure?

Question:
I have heard that in order to find people whose homes are in preforeclosure, you must go to the courthouse and search the records...I live in NC, so what is the name of the records that I would have to look for? I just want to know in advance so I wont go to the courthouse looking like an idiot.

Answer:
I dont know if it is different in each state, but in California you want to get a Notice of Default list, or NOD list. You get it from your Title company. Just look them up. Ticor title is big here. You may need to find one in your state if Ticor is not nationwide. The lists are free, but if you are not in the RE business, you may have to pay someone for the favor of getting you this list. It's monthly.
Property taxes or the tax excessers office.
Until the court case has been filed, it's not public information. You need to convince those folks to come to you, not mope around the courthouse hoping for some crumbs. You do that with advertising.

Anything that's already been filed is accessible by just reviewing the docket.
