How long does a foreclosure take in New York?

Question:
Say someone died about a year and a half ago. There have been no postings on the doors, but people have been visiting routinely to check out the house. How long do you think it will take until a foreclosure occurs, and after that, how long will it take for the house to go on the market? (business homework. gotta love it. :P)
