What are typical working hours? Do people take work home?

Question:
How much socializing is there on a job?

Answer:
The typical shift is 8 hours including a 1 hour lunch break and in some companies a 15 minute break in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The 'typical' working hours are most known to be around 9am - 5pm.

Taking work home is not recommended but there have been times that people have taken work home - sometimes because of meeting a deadline or trying to catch up. It's not a regular practice. It also depends on what kind of work you're in.

Socializing on the job - It depends on the company and kind of work. My company has Happy Hours on a regular basis as well as 2 company events strictly for socializing. We also have an employee lounge that some use to socialize during their 15 minute breaks.

I hope that helps :o)
I work 37.5 hours a week. Pretty average I reckon. I work Monday to Friday only, and get 1 hour for lunch each day, but that varies, depending on what I want to do. As long as I am in by 9.00am no one pays much attention. I can also work from home from time to time if I want, which is nice.

How much socialising depends on the job, and the people you are working with - some places are more social than others.
Mine are 8 - 4:30 with 1 hour for lunch & I get paid for 8 hrs a day. NOPE I don't take work home. If the boss doesn't have a special rush project I can socialize freely.

People should take work home as in work at home, or on a laptop in their car. This allows people to see daylight and normal social activity during the daytime. Other wise they are couped up in a cubicle all day long without much outside or external social interaction.
The rule should be like schooling that as long as their work gets done, they can do this.
Then again, I had a boss right beside me that requested I call to request an item that nobody was expecting us to request, and she told me that that's not how you talk onn the phone, and took it and began talking. You can bet I walked off the job that day!!
I would say 8-5 Mon-Fri. with an hour for lunch in the US. I can't speak for other countries since I'm sure it varies with culture. Siestas, holidays, etc. I don't take work home personally, but I know a lot of people do.
I work 7:45 - 4:45 M-F, but typical hours are 8 - 5 M-F. I never take work home. No one in my department takes work home that I know of. However, I work in an environment where there are a handful of office workers/management types and 85 - 90% of our department works outdoors.
We have a pretty social bunch, however in my office there's just two other people so we do a lot of "first thing in the morning" chatting, then we usually "work".
Average work week is 40 hours.

Monday thru Friday 9am - 5pm.
