Do Debt Relief Companies really get bills reduced?
Question:
Answer:
Do yourself a favor and stay away from these companies. I have had more than one client try to go this route and regret it. They lost hundreds in fees and had their credit ruined in the process. A better solution would be to set up a budget and start making regular payments directly to the credit companies. Talk to them and see if they have any sort of rehab program you can participate in that will give you reduced interest/payments.
You can do this on your own. Not only will it give you a better sense of accomplishment, but it will save you money and your credit score.
i dont know, but they must make money some how !!
In my opinon, don't bother...unless you are completely stupid on the topic. It's just another job for the people of blank to work for. It's depends.
You can do the same thing they are gonna do. Write this pity, self-pittying, feel sorry for you letter and explain your situation and they'll work with you on it.
Or go to one of the FREE debt services. Credit Counseling Bureaus in your neighborhood.
not yours just theirs!
Many of those debt relief companies are owned by the credit card companies. You actually end up owing just as much if not more because the debt relief company is going to charge you a healthy chunk of change for their services.
They are on the same level as the fast loan places.
The best thing to do is to negotiate with companies yourself.
They certainly do. They will definitely reduce the green bills you would otherwise have in your wallet.
It may sound too good to be true to most people when they say they will reduce the balance by 75%
They do write it off, I think as a bad debt against you on your credit file, either the 75% reduction or the full outstanding amount.
No creditor is really going to write off a certain about of money like that especially when you signed a credit agreement confirming you are aware of the high interest rates.

I've heard that if you go through a Debt relief company, it doesn't clean up your credit record. It STILL shows up as a bad thing to have on it.
