I've contacted a Debt Consolidation Group...?

Question:
I'm a little concerned, they say they are non-profit and "state-run" but I'm paying twice the amount I owe- is this normal?

Answer:
Do you really mean they're asking you to pay them double the sum total of all your debts? If you have that much money, then why don't you just pay your creditors directly and save half? I don't get it.

Most reputable credit counseling or credit consolidaton services do not charge you any fee at all. They make their money from your creditors. See Sources for one that I recommend.
