Bankrupcy is the last resource.
I would consolidate it all by "selling the debt" to some
clever company with whom you can discuss a better interest rate, they pay your debt off for you then you just pay them, they get some good interest, you pay a lower interest... both win.
But you don't want to trust just about anybody, read up on it, get ammo first then it'll be easier, here you'll find tons more info than I could possibly

Depends on how much debt you owe and what state you are in. If you owe alot for say like 100,000 in debt and only make 30,000 a year. Get a lawyer and file bankrupt.
I would definitely call Consumer Credit Counseling Service, but, once you've signed up make absolutely sure you contact your Credit Card companies for the first 3 months so there are no payment issues.
They will be able to lower your payments substantially, there is a downside though, you will be unable to use the CC's you put in the program, but, you can leave any out that you still want to use, anyway it's another option.
i work with loans for a living... debt consolidation gives you really bad credit. try to work things out on your own. if you are truely in over your head then just file bankruptcy b/c it does the same damage as debt consolidation but gets you out of debt easier. i ate peanut butter sandwiches for three months, every effin meal, to make a big enough dent in my credit card bills to try to catch up. you might want to try getting a personal loan from a credit union to pay off your bills. it will give you a lower interest rate, build credit, and give you one place to pay. and most importantly, get rid of your cards. you arent ready for them yet if you are in that much debt.
