Is there any safe organization to seek for credit counseling/consolidation if you're buried in debt?

Question:
So many companies claiming to be "non-profit" are asking for outrageous start up fees - can any of these companies be trusted - or is it better to fight it alone? Studly help!

Answer:
I used Credit Consumer Counseling, they were very helpful, and I got everything paid off. Do NOT use freedom first financial, my bf is going through a big mess with them right now, he paid a lot of money for them to negotiate with Chase, he had 30 months to save the money for Chase, but in 6 he was getting sued by Chase Bank.. freedom first did nothing to help.
greenpath.com is one of the most repurtable companies. They are registered with the gov't. Good luck.
these so called credit helpers are nothing but blood suckers trying to find another sorry asz sucker that got fooled into getting into the credit card hades! You got the card You need to negotiate with the card company. when they call ask for a payoff. tell them you aint gonna get sucked into paying outragous late fees and hidden fees from crooks!. jalf of the stuff they charge including interest is not legal in half the united states. When are yall gonna learn credit cards are not revolving accounts they are not an installment plan they are to be balance paid in full with in 30 days or else they remove yer left nut. And then their is these guys that the credit card companys hire to Help you with your debt.Aint dat so kind of them? Let yer dang credit go. dont pay em, make em come after you. get a lawyer and chalenge their rates and charges. chances are they wont come after you. they will charge off yer card and wait for another sucker. what will you do instead of a credit card. get a debit card . western union debit is the way to go. service is 5 dollars a month. works just like visa. accepted everywhere . I dont werk fer western union.western union werks fer me. pays fer my net
I know someone who worked with Consumer Credit Counselling, and they seemed to be on the level. Interest was reduced drastically on the person's outstanding debts (credit card debt).

Good luck.
