before u start the debt consolidation process here's what u need to read http://www.daveramsey.com/the_truth_abou... he has good info on debt consolidation. also he has a new york times best seller called My total money make over. again before u proceed please get this book it will be an eye opener and prepare u for this process cause u want to get into it not blindly but knowing what there's is so know.
he has a 7 step process that is very very practical to get u out of debt without the "help" of a debt agency. lotsa ppl are using it and i am too and i am almost debt free. here is a summary anyways,
-$1,000 to start an Emergency Fund
- Pay off all debt using the Debt Snowball
- Three to six months of expenses in savings
- Invest 15% of household income into Roth IRAs and pre-tax retirement
- College funding for children
- Pay off home early
- Build wealth and give! Invest in mutual funds and real estate
