Cops, lawyers (or criminals even) can I be arrested while getting a drivers license?

Question:
I wrote some checks in 1995 ( I was 19)that bounced and I never paid them. Warrants have been issued. The warrants are from Texas. I cant pay them right now and there is no statute of limitations for checks in Texas. I live in Florida. My Texas Drivers license is expired and I need to get a Florida license. Will I be arrested at the DMV? Sent back to Texas? Refused a Drivers license? I am a single Mom waiting on my first disability check , I have a chronic illness and I am unable to work but I need a license to drive in case my kids have an emergency or something. Any thoughts? Today is my birthday so my Texas license expires today. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:
sorry but 19yrs is well past legal age in Texas, meaning you were an adult. it is hard to judge the severity of your situation without some basic information. what were the total amounts of the checks, were they to one individual or did you go on a check writing spree ? is there more than one warrant ? are the felony warrants or misdemeanor ?.. i doubt that you will be arrested at the D.M.V. however this is a serious problem that you need to resolve as quickly as possible.
you may not get a florida license, but the cops wont be waiting outside the door when you leave
You will not be arrested.but Texas may have placed a "hold" on you getting a new license.FL dmv may refuse to issue you a new license based on this.

Find a way to pay Texas their money and get this issue settled.write them a letter expressing interest in settling this issue.asking for a payment plan...$20 a month??

Courts are usually reasonable and will work with citizens to
help them fulfill their obligations.
You better see if you can get some legal assistance.
It's possible that you could be denied a Driver's License; this varies state to state, so it's a crap shoot.

I doubt you'd be arrested on the spot, but if something shows up the DMV will likely forward your information to local law enforcement that may serve an arrest warrant at your home.

As for being sentback to Texas; it depends on what the final outcome of your situation is: amount/were you tried in you absence and ound guilty/awaiting/bench warrant/etc.. alot of factors..
