Should he continue paying this criminal lawyer? Another $ 500.00??

Question: Minor Drug Possession - Misdemeanor. Paid $2000.00, to lawyer; has NOT appeared (postponed) X 6. Now wants to defer to another lawyer and now have to pay him $500.00, for his appearance?? Defendant is doing most of the leg work. First attorney owes the second, since he has done very little.??
