What questions do you ask a criminal lawyer before hiring him/her? is is better to hire one from a diff county
Question:
Answer:
Better to hire one from the county of occurrence, because they know the judges and the D.A.
Ask him/her what their hourly rate is, how will they handle your case, what their success rate is, or if they have handled this type of case before.
His success rate should be on the top of the list. I would suggest you call the bar association for a referral.
One can get referrals from friends about the lawyer and that way many questions will not be needed.
The first thing I would ask is how they charge. Do they charge a flat fee for a plea and a flat fee for a trial or do they charge hourly. Next, I would ask them what their background is in criminal law. Were they a prosecutor at one time? Have they handled many criminal cases? How many trials have they first chaired (estimate)?
If they have a hard time telling you their fees, I would be very leery of that attorney. Many attorneys charge extra if you call them on the phone. I would ask if they charge more per phone call. I would also make sure all of the terms are placed into a contract so that you and the attorney both know what is expected.
