We live in a great nation where people are innocent until proven guilty. People are wrongly accused all the time, if there wasn't someone who knew the law to help defend those people we'd have a real problem on our hands.
I see your point when it comes to lawyers who blatantly lie for their clients, but we can't do away with them completely and definitely shouldn't generalize as there are lawyers out there just trying to do the right thing.
You know the great thing about America is that I believe as bad as the Law works and it sometimes is not. We still have this the best in the world. I am thankful when we get in trouble right or wrong we live the a land where we are free.

It depends on which side you are on. Defense or Prosecutor. Defense lawyers have a lot on their plate. Your fate.
The prosecutor has tons of staff and case loads. You're just another number to them. It's not personal.
So as the others so eloquently put it America is a great nation where you are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. What that means is even the slightest doubt in a case and you are off. That however depends on a jury.
So if you are on the wrong end of the law you have to ask yourself did I do it? Be honest. Let your lawyer help you. If you are a victim let the lawyer help you.
I know in my cases I never slept. I always worried what they were up to. Fortunate for me discovery was always there. And when the evidence is circumstantial I rested easier but never worked a case less diligently. So In answer to your question neither criminal, nor civil atty sleep well. It will get to you at one point or another. That's why I quit.
