A question for a criminal lawyer?

Question:
if one pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges as a teenager (14), can that record still be found in a background check by a government agency 20 years later? In other words, if a government job application question asks: Have you ever been convicted of, pled guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contendre to any criminal offense? what are the possible scenarios? and how can one remove the record? thanks.

Answer:
Many times when you're a minor, records may be expunged,(remove), if you complete the probation. Sometimes they are sealed altogether.Ask your lawyer or the district attorney.
On many application these days the question is have you ever been arrested, which is unfair since one is innocent until...
But in this post 9/11 world background checks are pretty thorough.
The person has one thing on their side. They were 14 when it happened. Just as long as they don't make it a habit.
the government can and will look that far back.
it's the person's record so the government can really check that. with the advent of computer, it's really and undoubtedly possible.
