I have a friend who has served 6 out of 20 yrs for manslaughter. I believe he is innocent. He has maintained to me and his family that he is innocent(I know alot of people say that, but I can't see him hurting his family). There is alot to this story I don't want to get into on here, but he was done wrong. He was done wrong when being questioned. If I am remembering correctly he wanted an attorney, and the police continued to question him without one. His court appointed attorney(when he did get one) wasn't any good, and I believe the least he deserves is a decent attorney to hear his story. Another thing is he was promised a lesser sentence if he pled, and they didn't give it to him. The thing is, he wants to recant his plea. He needs help, so if there is anyone out there who would be willing to help please respond.

If by La, you mean Louisiana, you should contact the Innocence Project which, pre-katrina, was based out of New Orleans and sharing office space on Baronne Street with the Death Penalty Resource Center. If you are actually in New Orleans, you may also want to contact the criminal law clinic at Tulane, sometimes they work on these types of cases.
What you'll need to do is start cold-calling attorneys in the phone book. Briefly explain your case and see what you can do. Unfortunately, you're going to have a lot of trouble finding somebody to do the huge amount of work your case will require for free. Please take your friend's story with a grain of salt. Odds are that his conviction came because he committed a crime. If he hadn't, he would NOT have pled guilty. Innocent people do not confess to crimes!
Try the Innocence Project . I'm not sure where they are based .It won't matter what state he is in .
