Can you become a lawyer with a criminal record - one misdemeanor conviction?

Question:

Answer:
you're fine.

when the applications ask you about this, you must be honest. it wont affect your admissions...they just want you to be honest. if youre not honest, when you are applying for the bar, they will do a background check and will find out the truth. they dont care, as long as youre honest. if they find out you lied, they may deny you admission into the bar.
I don't know as that matters, it might for getting into a good college of law, but remember some criminals become lawyers behind bars and practice when they get out, so I doubt it matters with practicing law, but probably somewhere along the way because you have to have a license, it could cause problems, you can probably find out the right answer if you call a legal hotline or lawyer or even go to a law website or library and ask.
Yes because a misdemeanor will come off your record.
A misdemeanor conviction will definitely not preclude anyone from practicing law or getting a license.
A misdemeanor conviction will come off your record once u become the lawyer and you can just start over again and try to keep ur record clean this time
yes, but different states have different requirements for sitting for the bar so i would advise you to find out what the standards are in your particular area before starting school

off the top of my head, however, i can't think of any state that would not let someone sit for the bar if they only have a misdemeanor
WHAT did you do?
In Georgia, you have to disclose it (even if it is no longer on your record). The bar will investigate it and want to know more information about it. However, it will not automatically keep you from being a lawyer. They will usually give you a pass if you can show it was a one-time, stupid stunt or if you can show you have reformed since then. A lot will also depend on exactly what the crime was.

I assume that most states have an analagous process, but I can't say for sure.
