I have taken phentermine and it did help me lose weight. It curbed my appetite dramatically and when I was hungry most of the time I had fierce cravings for fruit, sometimes vegetables. While I was very successful on phentermine, I only took it for three months and I was still following a very strict work out schedule.

In any case, doctors reccomend that with any diet pill it should only be taken in three month periods at most, because after that period of time your body grows accustomed to the medication and it loses its effectivness. Three months on and three months off is a good plan if you have a lot of weight to lose.
Also, remember that no diet pill works alone, they can only supplement a good weight loss program that has hit a plateau. I promise that if you take phentermine with out diet and exercise you will not get very good results.

I remember the "phen-phen" diet pills from a few years ago. They were successful in helping you lose weight,,but after taking them so long, some people developed heart valve problems. I believe that phentermine was one of the two pills of that combination. I wouldn't start anything unless I researched it and found out what side effects it would cause. The rapid weight loss wouldn't be worth a life-threatening condition. Talk to your doctor!!
Yes, I have taken them. They are not effective as they seem to be. I took them..first two days, had this bad speed effect on me (no, I've never done Speed), but if you could imagine. Nervousness, sick feeling in your stomach, racey heart...not all things I wanted to feel. Yes of course I wasn't hungry b/c I felt that way. BUT, after about a week, your body DOES get immune and the pills no longer work. I lost, at the most 5lbs b/c they weren't effective. If you do your research on them, the description also says temporary appetite suppressant. You can start over and take them again two - three weeks later, but then your just f***g your eating habits, metabolism, and body up! I quit taking them. I'm upset I spent so much money with little results. I know the only way to safely and effectively to lose weight is the hard way....diet and exercise...both of which make me want to blah! Take my advice, don't waste your time or money. It really isn't worth it in the long run.
O and that 5lbs I lost....water weight. And that returns very quick.
