Are antidepressants affected by diet pills? (A doctor's advice would be greatly appreciated!)?
Question:
However, ever since I started taking Depakote, I've been gaining weight like crazy. I'm always hungry.
It didn't upset me much at first (I've never been obsessed with having a perfect body), but now I'm getting close to becoming obese, and I don't want my health to be in jeapordy.
I am 21 years old (old enough to be on a diet pill), but I'm not sure how safe it would be for me to take while I'm on other pills. I'm a little afraid of asking my doctor, because I don't want him to forbid me from taking them.
I DO eat healthy; I just eat too much and I feel too lethargic for exercise a lot of the time.
I was thinking of trying TrimSpa - I've read some great reviews and it supposedly gives you more energy. If anyone has some serious advice on this matter, please let me know.
Answer:
I am a nurse, not adoctor, but, I can say to you that diet pills usualy make a person open their bowels more often and urinate more often. This affects ANY drug you may be taking, including Lithium. It will make you wee and poo the drug out of your body faster than usual and therefore your therapeutic levels of that drug will drop..have less affect.
Best advice is to speak to the pharmacist or your doctor and you may just have to be monitored more closely if you go down the path of taking the diet oills. Otherwise, a good thing to do is limit your food, exercise as you say you do and you will go great!
