Diet pills - permanent damage?
Question:
She has recently stopped taking these pills, and has found out from the doctor that she has elevated cortisol levels, hormonal imbalances, and a thyroid imbalance. She has started taking prescription medicine to correct these problems, and thinks that maybe the imbalances were what caused her to be "heavy" to begin with.
I think that the problems may have been caused by the years of diet pills, but she disagrees. Has anyone ever heard of permanent damage (besides heart problems) caused by diet pills, or ongoing imbalances caused by them?
Answer:
Anytime you use medicine (especially a lot of them at once) your body takes a change. She has been using them for a long time and it could very well be the cause of her bodies imbalance. The best way to lose weight is through eating healthy and exercising. Its the natural way, so it may take longer, but in the long run your body wont suffer the way hers is now. Pills may do the job fast, but the results dont last if you stop taking them. I would tell your friend to follow her doctor's orders, try and get her body back to normal, and then if she wants to lose weight she should do it naturally. good luck to her.
erm thanks for the 2 points!
It does harm to your thiriod is what I have heard, and that is a bodypart that cannot be restored-reset or renewed. She will probably need the rebalancing pills for a veRY long time. btw I think it is hilarious people taking diet pills and just continue to eat like they used to.
Yes, diet pills can lead to permanent damage especially with calcium in the body depending on how long a person takes them, some diet pills can deplete the calcium levels in your bones, which can put one in risk for osteoprosis> spell. Taking multivitamins regularly can help regulate this. She needs to try to stop with diet pills all together, that is to many to be taking... If she takes diet pills then she should eat and exercise regularly while taking them as well as get enough sleep.
Many years ago, I too used a popular diet pill for a short time and several months after stopping the usage of the pills, I developed an under-active thyroid disorder, there is no history of this disorder in my family and I can not say whether or not these diet pills caused this disorder.
All I can say is that whether or not the disorder is connected to the diet pills, it wasn't worth it. I've learned that the only healthy way of losing weight is through exercise and eating right.
