Those diet pills?

Question:
i always see the diet pill commercials on t.v. and at the bottom it always says they're not FDA approved. that probably means they're not good for you to take, right?
everyone always tells me i'm skinny but i want to lose weight via excersize and cutting out junk food, but would taking some of these pills help speed up the process?
and, what are positives and negatives of them?
(if it matters at all, im 18 so i'm done growing and whatever)

Answer:
Do NOT take diet pills! They are dangerous!!

Last year I was visiting my parents and took diet pills on top on my exercise routine and normal diet. I was 26 at the time, 5'11, 180 lbs. By week three I was sick. I had diarrhea, dry heaves, dizziness, headaches, and a general feeling of being sick. I thought I had caught the flu or something. I had lost 13 lbs in 4 days. One morning I told my mom I didn't feel good. My vision kept blacking out and I felt (for lack of a better way to say it) stoned. Later that afternoon I was walking from the bathroom to my bedroom (a 5 foot walk) and I passed out. I was rushed to the hospital emergency where they did a bunch of tests on me.

My pulse was up to 120, My blood pressure was 150/40, they had to start me on an IV, the did an EKG on me, took blood and urine samples, and a whole barrage of other tests.

They finally got me stabilized and said that I was dehydrated and malnutritioned. I told him that I took diet pills. When I mentioned diet pill, the doctors face lit up and said that's why. He said they can cause a whole bunch of health problems, including death. He told me to toss the diet pills or next time I might not be so lucky.

I was kept in the hospital for almost 10 hours, given 3 or 4 IVs, potassium, juices, and monitored (by the EKG, blood pressure, and heart rate machines) every 15 minutes.

Please take my story as a warning. If you seriously want to loose weight there are better ways (I know because I've lost weight after this)

The quickest way to lose weight is to cut out red meats, starches, breads, sugars, alcohol, and sodas.

Eat veggies (salads are good), soups, and drink TONS of water. If you get hungry between a meal, drink water to fill up.

In moderation eat white meats, and fruits (fruits contain natural sugars, and that can put on weight)

Practice portion control. Yes, you'll feel hungry at first, but think of your goal, and soon your stomach will start shrinking and you won't have that feeling anymore.

Eat 5 times a day. A small breakfast. A mid-morning snack, such as an apple. A small lunch. A mid-afternoon snack, such as carrots. A lite dinner. Do not eat any later than 7pm (6pm is better.)

Go exercise for at least an hour - two a day, incorporating weight training along with your cardio. Cardio helps to melt the fat, while weight training builds muscle. Muscle burns fat, even when you are resting. You get the idea. It also gives tone and definition. Also do a few yoga and pilates exercises to help tone those hard to reach and stubborn areas.
Do not try to lose weight with diet pills. They are not safe for your health. The best way that will provide long term results is to eat healthy, snack only on healthy things and increase your physical activity. Watch what you drink too. Soft drinks have tons of sugar in them. I think you have the right idea by saying you are going to cut out junk food and exercise more. That's the path you should take.
Increased blood pressure, heart problems, racing pulse, nausea are the down sides.

The positives are the manufacturers make a lot of money on scams.
Do not use diet pills. Big bucks for nothing. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, give up the sweets and colas, drink more water and you should start to lose weight.

You can get doctor approved diet pills. I've been on them (different kinds) for probably about 7 years off and on. I just went back on them after not being on them for 2 years I wanted to lose some weight. I have lost approx 23 pounds in approx 35 days. Is it the healthiest way? no probably not but I go to my doctor's to check my blood pressure etc. It absolutely speeds up the process but they are very addictive and there are side effects like these ones that are called meridia they cause dry mouth, nervousness, and they are expensive ($150 for 30 pills) and once I get to my goal weight I go off them. I still have to work out and eat healthy...good luck
not being fda approved is neither good nor bad. ripped fuel and hydroxycut werent fda approved because of ephedrin. hit was on the shelf for a long time til they had to take out the ephedrin (muhang). ups of them they give you a boost of energy to push you. downs they can dehydrate they can make you crash. none of them burn fat unless you actually exercise. the best ive taken (and still do) are gnc thermo burst. it has never dehydrated me in the gym or the desert. it gives a great burst of energy as well.
Well let me start off buy saying this the reason that the FDA does not approve them is for the simple fact that if an herb was found to cure cancer that a health food store sold then if the FDA would have approved it then it would be harder for them to take off the market and put in to the doctors hands... and yes i know there wrong but back to the diet pills... It really depends on which ones you take you mostly have your two categories of these pills one being your stimulants then the other being you thermogenic. Your stimulants just give you the boost of energy to workout they really dont help in the fat burning process and can some times hurt if your not getting enuf protein by making your body go into the catabloic state(muscle breakdown). But if your diet is good with healthy fats and lean protein then its worth giving it a try and if you decide to go this route then buy ephedrine... yes you will hear peeps say its bad for you but you pay to play the game cause any stimulant isnt good for your heart.. Then there are thermo genics which work by raising your bodys core temperature you release fat in to the blood stream... these also are an intense product i would suggest the thermogenic thyroid tabs which are awesome. I hope this helps if you wanna know more feel free to email me and ask questions @ juicebcb@aol.com
I'm sorry to tell you this, but you are not 'done' growing if you are only 18 ... both men and women are still 'developing' until they are 25! And you are right that if the FDA doesn't approve of these weight loss pills, there is something 'wrong' ... which is that they don't really 'work.' If you read the 'enclosed literature' you'll find that all of them recommend a 'lower calorie diet' and exercise with taking the pills ... and you would be better off spending your money on some good sneakers, and going for a run, than you would be from taking the pills ... but in the end it's UP TO YOU to make your 'decision' because you are 18, you are legally an adult, and you know yourself better than anyone else. Good luck in your weight loss efforts.
