Would It be safe for a 13 year old boy to take Alli diet pill?

I have a 13 year old boy who is 5'4 and 245 lbs. He is finallly ready to get on a serious diet, but because he is not losing much weight he is becoming discouraged. He has a salad everyday for lunch and walks everyother day at least a mile. I was wondering if Alli would be safe for him to take. I am just trying to think of ways to help him along. A very slow metabolism also runs in the family. Is there anything else that is safe. Please Only Serious Answers.

Alli has not been approved for anyone under the age of 18. I would not put my son, or any child on it. I wouldn't even take it myself. Can you imagine what would happen to your son if he were sitting in class and suddenly had one of those horrible side-effects (like crapping his pants) associated with taking Alli? That would probably be the most embarrassing moment in his life. Talk to your child's doctor about it, He/she might be able to provide you with a safer alternative.

My dad is a doctor, and I asked him about this. Diet pills such as this Alli are bound to work, but as soon as you stop taking it, you will gain some of it, if not all of it back. And check the Alli website, but I wouldn't think that it's safe for people under 18.
Ask your pediatrician for advice. Over the counter diet pills are dangerous for adults, let alone children.
If it was me since he is only 13 I would call his doc first and discuss this with his doctor.
I think the best thing to do would be see your family doctor and put him on the healthy diet plan. Which can include his food and calorie intake and the amount of exercise he gets. Doctors can also help with emotional problems that may come with diet and lifestyle changes. Good Luck!

Walking burns very few calories compared to other activities. He needs to start jogging, even if it starts out only as a quick run around the block.

Almost every day that you hear of a new diet pill you hear about how an old one has been determined to be harmful to your health. Alli blocks the absorption of fats and although that seems helpful, dieting and then blocking fats absorption may keep your body from getting ANY fat which is very unhealthy.

He needs to exercise vigorously. Losing a few pounds on a pill will not help his blood pressure or cholesterol levels in the future. Until he gets his feet moving he's just taking years off his life and setting himself up for a future of possibly type II diabetes or heart attack/stroke.
NO NO NO NO NO!! I cant stress this enough. Diet pills are horrible and can have some major side effects. If you want to speed up his metabolism I suggest you read burn the fat feed the muscle. In no way am i affiliated with this site just a person who had a weight problem.

You can speed up your metabolism by exercising more and eating a little less.

But please dont give your kids pills they are garbage.
it will seriously mess ur kid up he might stop growin...just asking...how can u let ur kid get to that weight..how can u just see ur child...a person...who came from u..go through so much pain..when i have kids...no **** like coke and mcdonalds..if i dont eat it y should they..get ur kid off bad habits...no junk food..NO COKE...and no sitting down at a tv, or pc and vegitating..im glad i woke up when i was younger and decided i didnt want to be fat anymore(not much though) you can do all u can...but the choice will be up to ur child...he/she has to make that desicion for themself...i pray they make the right one and get through this troubling time...god bless
I would try this plan before resorting to a pill. It has great results, I lost 8lbs in one week and it will help him to get over cravings and temptations.

to be honest the best way is not to go on a diet as ive tried them all and diet pills and they dont work lol but just change your diet and go swimming 4-5 times a week for about an hour each time it tones your tummy and all your body up wonderful too ! i lost 2 1/2 stone since may its great and i eat loads too im just eating the right foods but instead of swimming try aqua arobics its great and really fun ! great question goodluck !
