Is there such a thing as prescription diet pills?

Question:
I'm looking for prescription diet pills. Planning to go to the doctor soon and just want to do some research before I head to the doctor.

Please help. Thanks.

Answer:
Yes.

The most popular is Adipex. The generic costs about $30 and the brand name $60ish. This medicine is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity. SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, or dry mouth.

Another is Xenical. (Alli is not OTC, which is Xenical but in a decreased strength.)This medicine is a gastrointestinal lipase inhibitor used in the management of obesity in adult and adolescent patients age 12 and older. This medicine may be used during the weight loss phase or following weight loss to assist in weight management. This medicine works by inhibiting the digestion of fats from the diet and should be used with a reduced-calorie diet.
Xenical is NOT cheap.

Meridia is another & it is NOT cheap, either. This medicine is a diet aid used with a reduced calorie diet to promote and maintain weight loss. Brand name only.

Tenuate is another. It does come in generic, but if my memory serves right.. it's not very cheap. This medicine is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity.

Goodluck to you! I hope this helps. Your doctor can help decide which one is right for you.
Yeah they have several ones. My wife was on them once. Try that Alli which is an over the counter version of a prescription one.
I suggest save money and walk 13 kms every day.
Yes there are. If you have high blood pressure, you may be out of luck, because most of them have that as a contraindication. I have taken Bontril, and it works very well, and is not expensive (the generic is about $16 a month). My doc also said that Bontril is one of the easier ones to quit when the time comes, and it is true, I had to quit cold turkey, and had no ill effects. FYI- if you have to take a drug test, it will show up as amphetamines, so if that is an issue, I suggest getting a note from the doc stating you are taking it. A friend of mine was prescribed Meridia, but that one is very expensive, and most insurance does not cover diet pills.
Acomplia is another, though I don't know anyone that has tried it. Just as your doctor, there are many and new ones every day. But to be honest, eating smarter (and smaller) and exercise is the only way that really works, unless you want surgery to help you eat less. good luck and think positive!
