Question:
Answer:
see this http://gsx1.com/insurancecomparison.html... it's one form to get a number of quotes from different insurers. It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you, if it works out remember my points please :)
I wish I could. I'm in the same boat. Guess we'll just have to take the best care of ourselves that we can and hope for the best. Damn insurance companies. They take on fat, lazy people all the time, but avoid us diabetics who are taking good care of ourselves... go figure.
You are right to be wary of medical discount cards. Most are scams because very few doctors will actually accept the cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that most doctors on their provider list don't even know that they're listed. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes... for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well.
Contrary to the above answer insurance companies do not list laziness as an underwriting question but they do decline people for obesity.
Visit a local independent agent to see what options would be available for you. There are some indemnity plans that will accept a diabetic. The plans are not major medical but do offer some relief. You can also try this prescription discount card: http://drugcardamerica.com/index.aspx?af... It is free so it doesn't hurt to try. I have clients with insurance who say some of their medication is cheaper using the card than it is using their insurance.
