I don't believe that diet pills are the answer. There is no quick fix. It is true that if it took say one year to put on weight, then why would one think they can get it off, safely in a matter of a few weeks. Take a look at your eating and exercise habits. Keep a journal on foods you eat, and what exercise if any you are getting, for a week or two, then study it over, and see what areas you can improve in. I know this isn't the answer you were after, but a healthier lifestyle will do you more good in the long run, and will develop better eating/excercise habits. This will be long term, where diet pills if at all, wouldn't be something you would want to take long term. I'd take the safer route. I would rather see you lose the weight safely, than develop some serious health issues from diet pills. Good luck to you.
Well, if you are that overweight you already are unhealthy. Taking pills instead of actually becoming healthy is just as bad. But if you have to choose a drug, you would probably lose the most weight on methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta). Not that I recommend this.
You should (and CAN) jump start your metabolism by EATING OFTEN. Starving yourself will not make you healthy and will actually slow your metabolism down, so when you do eat it will all turn into fat. EAT OFTEN. The most important meal being immediately after waking up.
You want to keep your insulin levels as stable as possible, so this means frequently eating (so it doesn't go down); eat every 3hours; and avoiding simple sugar (so it doesn't go up fast). Don't fear carbs; they are fuel and energy. But they need to be the right ones that are burned slowly. This means complex carbs. This doesn't mean rice and potatoes, though. These [can] have very high glycemix indexes. The GI # is a rating 0-100 representing how fast it makes your insulin levels go up. The worst would be dextrose(glucose) which is at 100. Fructose is better (the "fru"it sugar), but it needs to have fiber along with it. Fiber slows down absorption. So instead of drinking apple juice, have an apple. Make sure you have absolutely as little sucrose as possible. (Table sugar, soda, any product with 'high fructose corn syrup'[which is perhaps only 50% fructose],just about any processed product has sugar added for no justifable reason.) This is the problem with the American diet: the extremely high sugar content in all foods adjusts the body to rely on simple sugars as its primary energy source. This causes weight gain, diabetes, and loads of other problems.
Great carbs that burn slowly are all vegetables, legumes, beans, etc. Foods high in fiber will further slow down absorption and increase the speed of transit through your bowels; thus, food will stay in your body for a shorter amount of time. This means avoiding white flour. You can eat brown rice, whole weat pasta, rice flour, etc. Aim for at least 30g of Dietary Fiber per day. I highly recommend lentils and barley. Try some 15-grain whole-weat bread, if you toast it it tastes great and often you can't tell the difference from that and the bad for you white stuff.
Your fats should come from healthy fats like olive or flaxseed oil; with only a minimal amount from animal fats. So your protein choice should be things like ground turkey, lean chickenbreast, and fish.
Make sure you take a multi vitamin, and your body will be much happier. Even if you don't exercise, the above diet will make you lose weight by jump starting your metabolism and keeping your endocrine system healthy. Add in some mild exercise (or as much as you can do) and you'll get in great shape.
Once you're eating often like that, say for about 3 or 4 weeks, take one day and reduce your calories by about 600-700 for that one day only. Your metabolism will still be in the "I'm being fed!" mode, and will be burning fast. And so you'll be using your fat stores for the deficiency in calories that day without making your body think you are starving. Don't do that often.
Keep up eating healthy and you'll lose weight fast, keep it off, and most certaintly live much longer than otherwise.

I like Acomplia the best. It's an anorectic anti obesity drug. It is a CB1 cannabinoid receptor antagonist. Acomplia has been found to stop food craving enough to help people lose weight, and could also help curb other unhealthy urges, such as smoking. This is a prescription strength weightloss solution that in one study, helped people who were overweight drop an average of 20 pounds, and was found to be very useful for patients who suffer from obesity.
