Why can't I fax? I have a Compaq Presario with Windows XP and my internet connection is broadband.?
Question:
Answer:
Hi,
You need a dial-up modem, the one you would have been using to connect to internet before you had broadband. And you need a phone line. Download winfax, a software to send and receive fax and install it and you will be ready to send and receive fax.
You can use an Internet fax service, like MyFax. With MyFax users can send/receive faxes through their email. You don't need to buy any hardware or software. All you need to sign up is an existing email address. For more information go to http://www.myfax.com
You still need a 56K92V fax modem. They're like $5 most places. It's th eold dial-up modem.
Scan them into .pdf's and e-mail them.
Apparently your pc does not have a fax modem in it.
You need a fax modem installed for the unit to fax. You cannot fax via the broadband internet connection (unless there is a fax service that you access via the web and they actually fax it for you; I know of no such service).
Purchase a FAX / modem (under $50) and install it and you should be fine. The fax modem needs an analog phone line connected to it as well.
