With a dial up modem you can send and receive faxes over your phone line.
I have totally switched to attaching things to emails to people, which means they get better graphics and in color.

Faxes require an analog internet connection, if you're on dialup you can do it, otherwise you're out of luck. You could just buy an old fax machine off ebay to use on your home phone line.
