How do I send a fax through dsl internet service?
Question:
Answer:
It gets sent through the phone line.
Even if you have DSL hooked up you need to ALSO plug in the phone line to your comoputer.
Get a specila little phone jack that will allow you to have the DSL modem hooked up AND will allow a line to be run from the phone jack directly to the phone jack on the back of the computer.
It will turn your wall phone jack into a double outlet with two palces to connect, one to the modem and one to the back of the computer.
I have just learned about this myself.
I have never been able to send a fax since I have always had DSL.
I haven't tried it yet still since I only need to send one fax a year.
My computer, an HP, came with a fax program. I have not tried it out yet, but just learned that you need to have the computer hooked directly to the phone jack on the wall for this.
It may be that the computer needs to use it's internal modem and use dial-up to send a fax. I think this is the case. Your DSL service has dial up numbers to use for this.
Knowsitall is correct if you plan to use a seperate fax machine. If you are looking to send a fax via the Internet then you would need a third party app. The best I have found is eFax which will allow you to scan documents and send them like a normal fax machine to other eFax users or regular fax numbers.
