How to connect two computers directly through fax modem (not by internet)? i can operate from any remote area?

if u r using windows it can be done by connecting different telephone lines to both modems now go to start > Programs > Accessories > Communication > Hyper Terminal
dial the telephone from there and bingo ur machines are connected to each other.
Once I and my best frnd did it to our PCs (we stay 7 kms apart) but we came to conclusion tht it is a costly process.
