Efax is free or if you have Windows XP and a 56k Modem you can turn it into a fax.
Installing a Fax on your computer.
The fax component for XP is not loaded on your computer by default. So we will need to install it. You may need you Windows XP CP, although you probably will not.
•Click Start and then click Control Panel.
•Click Add or Remove Programs
•Another window will appear. In the left side of this window you will see a button that is labeled add/remove Windows Components click it.
•Another window will open. In the list click the box next to Fax Services to check it and click next.
oIf it’s already checked you have installed already.
•Another window will appear telling you it is configuring the fax service. It may ask you for your XP CD here.
•If it installed correctly you will see a dialog box congratulating you and opting you to click finish. Go ahead and click finish.
•You have now installed the fax service on your computer!
Configuring your new fax.
The fax has been installed, but you still have to configure it.
•Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Fax Console.
•You will see a Window that say “Welcome to the Fax Configuration Wizard”, click next.
•Fill in all the information you want listed and click next.
•It will ask you the name of the fax device, it should be the default. On this same screen there will be two check boxes. Enable Send and Enable Receive. Make sure Enable Send is checked. If you want to receive faxes be sure to check enable receive.
oIf you click Enable Receive you can set it so you have to manually receive faxes by acknowledging them of you can set it to automatically answer after so many rings.
•It will ask you your TSID. For this I would type in the number where they can fax you back. Click next.
•Click Finish and you have completed configuring your fax.
•One last step. Make sure your 56k modem is connected to a phone line. There are usually two ports on the back of a modem. You will want to make sure to plug the phone line into the LINE port NOT the telephone port.
How to use your new fax.
•To use your fax just open your fax console. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Fax Console.
•To send a fax, click the new fax button in the top left hand corner.
•A New Fax Wizard pops up. Fill out the required info and click next.
•In these screen you can select the cover page template and write what you want to fax. After your thru click next.
•This screen tells the fax when you want to send it. Whether it be now or sometime in the next 24 hours. Click next.
•This screen allows you to preview your fax before sending it or to just send it.
•Click finish and your done.
