Do I have to have a registered business to apply for an American Express Business Card?
Question:
Answer:
Registered? You mean a legal business? With a business license? Then the answer is yes.
What do you think?
We started a small business and had no problem getting the Amex card, but it was actually in my name dba (doing business as) our company. So in effect, it wasn't a true corporate card. Then, six years into our 'relationship' I personally maxed out a personal card and then turned around and paid it off completely a few days later. American Express saw that I had maxed out a personal credit card and lowered the limit on the corporate card, WITH OUT A PHONE CALL or any notice. Nothing, and we had guys trying to fuel up and purchase parts and get hotel rooms. No one at american express cared, I was too small of a fish, and I have since quit using the corporate amex cards, and closed out two of the FOUR cards (business and personal) that I had with them. Working on closing out the other two. They simply don't care, didn't bother to verify any information, the fact that I had several accounts or had been with them for years (personally anyway) meant nothing to them. I have very little respect for American Express.
