Why don't some businesses accept debit cards...?

Question:
if the money will be credited to their account right away?

Answer:
Reason being is that debit cards (depeding on how the business debits them) can be easily overdrawn and hence the bank can give them problems and even request the money back..
Probably b/c not all debit cards have a MasterCard or Visa logo. Their system probably can't recognize these debit cards.
The debit card requires machines that will process the transaction. The bank that processes them will usually charge the merchant for the use of those machines. So if the business is trying to keep costs down, they won't accept them. The downside for the merchant in not doing so is that people have become used to using their cards and may shop elsewhere.
