Remember that shot from the Bourne supremacy when Bourne uses the sniper to zoom in on the CIA ppl he's staking out? Picture that shot but with a silhouette! or any slihouette in crosshairs for that matter...
an eye with a magnifying glass.. like spies, u kno?
Perhaps a light gray, mottled shadowy background suggestive of - mystery. But the MOST important thing is that the TYPE of business that you do is the most clear thing on your card.

Keep lettering clean-cut and imagery to a minimum and the background non-intrusive so that your product really is an eye-catcher.

Good luck!
Stick to Blk/Wht it's classic but yet modern, what's the name of your company? This also should help you figure out a pic type! Skulls are always good or a high quality picture of some kind of road kill!! Do you wear hats, like Mike Hammer? Check out my art site, if you want somethin custom let me know!!
Maybe the scope or even looking through a camera lens is a bit commonly used(but still a cool idea). How about an eye in the background that looks at you from all angles, whichever way you turn the card...like the eye follows you??
May be the cut of the card is z surveillance camera shape
Solid glossy black with white sans serif lettering, 3 gold foil points of interest (dots or bullets) that are small and unobtrusive but adding a classy touch. Your photo in black and white, preferably in classy dress if you want upscale customers. Keep it simple and clean and CLASSY.
good ol' Uncle Sam will do the trick for you, I think. Just use it as a watermark on your business cards. I am sure your potential customers will be impulsed/ will feel confident enough and hire your services.
I just read some cool, some weird, ideas for you... but I am not sure your Q was answered.

What do you want?.. a business card that will bring in business or one that is so neet the person will keep it and use it when they need your type services. Have both!.

Put a portrait of yourself as best as you can look, but realistic. People tend to keep cards with photographs. Or you could use a photo as you backdrop to the type.Use plain Ariel type and left justify your layout.

I would love to do a layout for you... check out my profile at 360 and email me.

Be contemporary and clean.
