Can a mail order business, when checking your credit card, find out your home address from the issuing bank?

Question: I want to order something that's not legal to buy in my state and have it shipped to a friend in another state. If I pay by credit card can the seller deny the sale because of where my bank is located?

Answer:
Your bank can't reveal your address, and the location of the bank has nothing to do with where you are. Every time I've purchased anything on-line, I've had to supply the billing address for the card I used. If the address is not correct, the charge will probably be declined. The business may have a policy requiring the shipping address to match the billing address on the card. As far as I know, such a policy would be legal.
